The Pants Debacle
I need new pants. The universe does not want me to have new pants. I tried to buy new jeans at Lane Bryant earlier this week when they were having a one-day, buy one get one free sale for the entire site. I didn't read the fine print to see that the sale ended at 11:59 PM Eastern. I was about ten minutes too late.
The next day, reader Robin recommended J. Jill for pants. That night, I tried to buy pants on the website, but the site wouldn't let me add the pants I wanted to my cart. I could add other things to my cart, just not the pants I wanted. Their customer service line was closed so I couldn't call either.
I am pretty desperate for new pants so, last night, I was planning to stop in at Lane Bryant at the mall since I would be in that area for another reason. Even though I had the toddler with me, I figured she would be fine for trying on a few pairs of pants. She would have been had she not peed in her car seat. Trip canceled.
Final result: No new pants acquired.
The Couch Debacle
The longer we had our old couch, the more I hated it. I liked that it was leather and easy to clean. I liked that it was a pull-out for overnight guests. I did not like that it was so narrow you couldn't nap comfortably on it. I did not like that the back cushions were attached to the couch and couldn't be rotated and that the bottom cushions could be rotated but not flipped.
The couch I really want is so expensive that I figured we would be stuck with our old couch for years to come.
Last month, leahpeah and artlung announced that they were selling all of their stuff and going on an indefinite road trip. I tweeted and said, "I'll buy your couch!" I had only been to their house one time but I remembed their giant, squishy sectional sofa. Many tweets later and their sofa was mine, even though I didn't really have room for it since I still had my old couch.
I sold my old couch.
I discovered my husband was allergic to the down cushions in leahpeah's couch. I didn't think it would be an issue because he didn't have any problems the night we were at their house. I love my husband but I also love that couch. In the end, I decided to keep the husband.
I sold leahpeah's couch.
My sister was packing up to move and they decided not to keep their living room furniture so she gave us her couch (and loveseat! and tables!). I gave her the money I made from selling leahpeah's couch.
I don't like my sister's couch. It doesn't look as good in my place as it did in hers and it isn't nearly as comfortable as I thought it was. (I love the tables, though, so it was worth the money.)
Final result: I made $40. I got a set of end tables that I love. I still need a new couch.
