Last year, I participated in the Great Interview Experiment run by Neilochka on his Citizen of the Month blog. I interviewed Scott at fivetoedsloth and I was interviewed by Amy from Momentary Madness. I wasn't planning to participate this year, but Neil asked for people to fill in for interviewers who flaked out and I volunteered.
I interviewed girlvaughn and I encourage you to participate in the Great Interview Experiment.
When Neil asked me to step in and interview girlvaughn, I dutifully went to her blog and went straight to her About Me page before reading any posts. That girl and I, we have a lot of things in common, one of which is not a love of cats. I am allergic. Love Mexican food? Check. Hate jazz? Check. Love lists? Check. Hate "LOL"? Check.
1. What's your favorite place to eat lunch in Santa Monica and what do you order there? I ask this for purely selfish reasons since I work in Santa Monica.
I do love to eat... Also, Santa Monica is so big and traffic is so bad that it really depends on what part of town you are in.
Bay Cities - of course. I haven’t been there since I cut out meat (mostly) but when I was a meat eater I would order anything and it was all amazing.
Jack N Jills - we usually go for breakfast. A little pricey and the portions are a little too big. They are seriously lacking vegetarian options but I am sure they would adjust if you needed them to. And if you’re a meat eater there are plenty of yummy choices. (also, the french press is delicious)
Tacos Por Favor - TASTY potato burrito or tacos
Many years ago when I worked on Lincoln and Santa Monica Blvd I would go to Bay Cities and...
Mrs. Winstons. The tuna on the amazing salad bar always made me happy.
Swingers - I like their burrito and chili. And the milkshakes. Hell yeh.
2. I love your to-do list for 2010. Do you plan to complete everything on it for 2010? What is the first thing you are going to do?
Well, if 2009 is any indication it will be an accomplishment to do ONE thing on my list. I need to start adding things I know I will do (like shower.). I hope hope hope I can do it all but probably the first thing I will do is to try 12 new restaurants. I want to set aside one month where we only try new places when we go out... I’m thinking February is a good month for that!
3. When did you start blogging and why?
I helped my cats start their blog in 2004 and after a while they were all “hey lets post another picture of us napping again” and they started to bore me. Around this same I started to feel like my friends probably were going to break up with me or have me committed if I kept sending random texts and emails. I guess I felt like I needed a place to vent my my crazy thoughts and bitchy observations.
4. What do you get from blogging that keeps you blogging now?
It’s a place for me to vent and ramble. I really don’t know what keeps me doing it. I love to write, have always loved it, and the blog is just sort of stream of consciousness venting that sometimes morphs into a journal. When I blog a lot I want to write a lot. So it helps me stay motivated. I sort of wish I had kept it anonymous.
5. What's the story behind each of your tattoos?
#1 - it’s a little swirly spiraly deal on my neck that I got when I was 18. It was part of the logo of a band that I loved at the time and grew to be a symbol of happiness and friendship between my friends and me.
#2 - A simple Aries sign on my back when I was around 23. Because I am Aries and I wanted everyone to know it. I don’t really believe, or not believe, in the Zodiac but when I read descriptions I know that I AM an Aries through and through. I am Aries, hear me roar.
#3 - A star on my left wrist, I got the outline at the same time as the Aries sign and had it filled in 10 years later. Why? Cause I’m a superstar. Duh.
#4 - A crow in front of LA skyline at sunset done in colorful deco style on my left bicep (by the fabulous Bugs at bugsartwork.com) when I was 35 (in 2008). It’s a very long story but the crow was basically born from an inside joke with my husband and has come to symbolize our life together. The LA skyline was important to me because I am from LA and was on a big “remember who you are and where you are from” kick when I got it. No matter where I am Los Angeles will always be home.
#5 - Half-sleeve on my right arm, also by Bugs, done in 2009 - it is another colorful deco-style piece of a women playing the violin with the sun behind her. It is symbolic of my almost-spiritual love of music. I do not play the violin, but I looooove strings and if I had this life to do over again I
would for sure play the violin. Or piano. Or cello. Or drums. Anything. The “spiritual” part is the sun and the music is the woman playing the violin. Music and food are two of the most important things to me.
#6 - to be determined...
6. If you were to start a new blog right now, what would it be about?
Documenting the death of my liver one family vacation at a time
7. Do you think clowns drink decaf?
Seriously. I wish I knew the answer. My initial reaction is that no one in their right mind drinks decaf. My husband would say that no one in their right mind would be a clown. So then clowns WOULD drink decaf. But my husband doesn’t even drink coffee so why should I trust his opinion?
