More Forgiving?

I was talking to a male friend recently and I asserted that women are more forgiving about physical flaws in their men than men are in their women.  I suppose you could even make that argument about homosexuals too actually. What do you all think?

I've always thought that was the case. Men are more visual than women so they are less likely to date someone based on their personality. With women we can meet someone who is so-so to us and they will either become more or less attractive as we get to know their personality.

Never thought of it from the gay angle, but I do think you're right (at least for us straight kiddies).

i think this theory stands for gay people too. my belief is that it is due to the testosterone.

Women are more intellectual in how we initially select a man. But I've found men to be totally blind to what we women call our physical flaws, or, if they notice the "flaw" they don't really give a shit as long as you're having sex. Or listening to their stories with great interest.

My eldest son is gay and I was taken aback about how much looks count and how easy it is for them to justify bad behavior if the other guy is hot. I was also amazed at the incredible amount of ageism there is with gay guys. It makes me sad.

notaclue, having spent several years hanging out with gay boys in gay bars, it is quite appalling how much that counts. And it is really rather sad. I have a good friend who is now in a committed relationship, but he's kind of not thin (although he used to be REALLY not thin so this is great) and kind of balding and he finally found a guy who loves him despite all that. I know it happens but he spent a lot of sad and lonely time until he met the guy... That being said he initially was only looking at the hot twinks too so he was just as bad as all the guys who wouldn't look at him because he was not a hot twink.

My contention in asking was that I really do think women are less obsessed and my male friend to whom I made that comment completely disagreed with me.

Jo, you're right. Your friend is wrong.
