Menopause Can Suck It
Trying to sleep in a strange place, alone, way before my bed time wearing something similar to this:
makes for a really rough night. The part that really sucks is that I didn't get enough sleep (and NO REM sleep) for the tech to determine the correct air flow setting for my CPAP.
The next step is to go back with a sleeping pill so I can actually sleep for the sleep study.
BTW, did you know that sleep apnea and snoring can be exacerbated by menopause? Yeah. Look it up. Another thing your mother didn't tell you.

I've heard it's totally worth it...my BIL is a changed man after getting his CPAP machine!

Eeee! That's a scary machine! Like it's eating your head or something. :) But my dad does love his so... I hear they work.

My husband finally got one sometime in my first trimester when I was pregnant. I guess he was tired of sleeping in the guest room. He sleeps so much better with it and so do I.

My girlfriend went through this about a year ago -- she was a mess when I picked her up from the sleep clinic that morning.
Total. Mess.
I just don't understand how they can hope to monitor someone's typical sleeping patterns in that kind of environment?

Lordy. What in the hell causes people to stop breathing when they're sleeping? I'm going to do some research on this. Maybe it's just that people's lungs get tired from day after day of breathing under stress. I'm guessing that people have been doing this since the dawn of time but science is just now recognizing it since they have the capabilities to test for it. Every single person I know who has had a sleep study found that they indeed suffer from apnea. My suspicious mind says that the government is in cahoots with the dudes who make CPAPs.

my husband uses this, altho not every single night like i wish he would. very often i would lie awake and hear him catching his breath in between his snoring. it's very hard on the heart due to all the stopping and starting of breathing.
my mother has suffered from it for YEARS until she got the cpap.
it's kind of sexy in darth vader way.

All I heard from someone's mother is that all of your hair turns gray....yep...everywhere. Hadn't thought about that one.

I, of course, did some internet research and found that it has been recognized for many years. Some of the earliest CPAP devices were very mid-evil-looking and even more scary, and probably much less effective.
