An east coast-based client wanted to set up a phone meeting for tomorrow. When we asked what time they wanted to set it for, they said that they wanted to respect the west coast time difference. So what time did they ask for the meeting? 10:30AM. Eastern Time. That would be 7:30 AM PT. Uh, what would NOT respecting west coast time be then, exactly?

My boss often asks for 8:30 a.m. meetings. I guess he thinks that since he is crazy enough to be working by 5:00 a.m. our time, everyone else will be willing to participate before sunrise in their own time zones.
I had to try to schedule a call a few weeks ago that included three US time zones and a particpant in Switzerland. There is exactly one hour of the day that is respectful to everyone's work schedule, and it wasn't available. My Geneva woman particpated from home at 10:00 p.m.

As a manager in customer service my favorite time zone tricks are when I return from being out of the office and a customer is in my voicemail cursing me out. When the message states "this is so and so from the west coast, call the IMMEDIATLY when you get this" I cheerfully pick up the phone at 8am to call their home.
