I went to the beach yesterday and spent the day swimming in the lake and lounging around. I was very proud of myself, though. I thought I came back just a tiny bit sunburned. Much to my chagrin, as the evening wore on, I discovered I am far more than a tiny bit sunburned. My entire back is burned. My chest is burned. My shoulders are burned. My thighs and the backs of my knees are burned. The worst part about all this: I actually used sunblock. I used SPF 30* and reapplied three times while there. With at least two of those reapplications, I waited the requisite 15 minutes before jumping into the water to allow for absorption by the skin. Fucking sunblock.
*I am aware there are higher numbered sunblocks than SPF 30, however Consumer Reports did an article on that awhile back that said that there is no increased sunscreen protection factor for an SPF above 30.
